On the 12th of December 2010, Carlos Tevez shocked Manchester City fans by handing in a written transfer request to the club, which was rejected. The request came shortly after publicly showing disrespect to his manager after being substituted in a game against Bolton. Despite being offered special dispensation to take leave overseas, this wasn’t enough for Tevez as he continued to disrespect the club he was playing for. Tevez and his agent pushed to re-negotiate his 5-year-deal so Tevez wouldn’t have to stay at Manchester City, but failed.
When Tevez left for his summer break this year, he went on an Argentinian chat show and once again publicly showed his hatred for the City his club is based in. “Marbella is different from Manchester. You can buy a holiday house in Marbella. Of course I would buy a house in Marbella.” When asked why Manchester is so bad, Tevez replied: “The weather, everything. It has nothing.” Adding “ I’m always on my own, especially in the last few months. I’ve found the past few months very hard,” embarrassing his City team mates and the club staff.
But to Roberto Mancini and Manchester City fans, this apparently doesn’t seem to matter. Despite spending the last few months slagging off Manchester and his club, Roberto Mancini felt the need to bring Tevez on in the 65th minute of their tie against Bolton. The City fans live in the City Tevez despises even felt the need to cheer Tevez as he came on. It just shows how low they can get really. It’s bad enough Mancini even considering to bring him on, but City fans cheering him? That’s pretty crazy. Would we cheer somebody at Old Trafford if they hated the area and the players around them? No, we wouldn’t.
The point in this; it wouldn’t happen at United. Sir Alex wouldn’t stand for this rubbish, and we’ve seen many cases of it over the years which have resulted in players being sold. This incident simply adds to the long list of incidents that makes a fool out of Manchester City and Mancini; like the Bibliotelli back-heel and substitution incident. If I could take one thing out of this then it would be that Manchester is Red.
